08.01.2008NileDutch opens own office in Singapore!

NileDutch will open an own office in Singapore in January 2008. NileDutch Singapore will not only act as local agent for the company’s West Africa service, but it will become the company’s regional office for South East Asia, Indian Sub-Continent and Arabian Gulf.

NileDutch is a successful shipping company with its head office in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). The company operates 19 vessels from various regions around the world to West Africa in general and Angola and Congo in particular.

Already 12 years ago the company started in Singapore. Initially as nvocc with transhipment of containers in Durban (South Africa) onto own services. But since late 2006 NileDutch offers a direct service between Singapore and various ports in West Africa, including: Luanda, Lobito and Namibe in Angola, Matadi in DRC, and Pointe Noire in Congo. Ports such as Cabinda (Angola) and Libreville (Gabon) are offered in transhipment through the company’s feeder-services. NileDutch has own offices in most of the ports served in West Africa.

This decision must be viewed in a strategic context whereby NileDutch will take full (regional) control. The company is confident that there is a long term future in the trade between Asia and West Africa. For example during 4th quarter 2007 the company also opened NileDutch Representative offices in China.

In the course of 2008 this niche service will be upgraded to a fortnightly frequency, and Singapore will remain a fixed port of call, also used as transshipment hub for cargoes from South East Asia origins such as Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. The ports in Africa each have their own problems, causing for example long congestions. Therefore the operation is done with modern (geared) container vessels; in order to (as good as possible) reduce the effects of the delays on the other side.

West Africa sources all kinds of goods from Asia. This varies from construction equipments and materials to hi-tech consumer goods to basic foodstuffs as edible oils, condensed milk and rice to household goods.

Singapore is not only an efficient and reliable port and transhipment hub. NileDutch has found this to be an important commercial center with many specialized West Africa traders that the company wishes to stay close with.

01.10.2007Reefer to Luanda

Merchants are advised to arrange Direct Delivery of Reefers

The increasing number of temperature controlled containers shipped to the port of luanda is creating a problem in terms of connecting them to the power system on the terminal.

There are insufficient generators and connections to provide the required electricity for all containers discharged by the various lines.

The situation is critical and although NileDutch will continue to endeavour to obtain better conditions for the containers carried on our vessels, we recommend Merchants to avoid storage of Reefer containers on Unicargas.

In order to protect the cargo we strongly suggest to take all required measures to take delivery of the cargo on arrival by preparing documentation and processes in advance.

31.08.2007Rate increase ECSA/WAF Service

NileDutch increased capacity by adding a third ship in their East Coast South America service to West Africa. As a result of the continuous increasing of vessel cost and the ongoing tight space situation on board of the vessels, NileDutch will implement a rate increase for all container shipments between East Coast South America and West Africa.

USD 200 / 20'Dry van
USD 400 / 40'Dry van
USD 500 / 40'HC reefer

The rate increase will be applicable as from 1st October 2007.

22.08.2007Rate Increase - Portugal / Angola

Due to the ongoing tight space situation on board of our vessels and continuous increasing vessel costs the following rate increase will be implemented:

EUR 200 per teu

The rate increase will be applicable for all cargoes loaded between Portugal and Angola.
The above will take effect from 1st October 2007.

07.08.2007Freetown and Monrovia calls from NWC suspended

Nile Dutch have been analysing the service from NWC to Freetown and Monrovia and came to the general conclusion that with the upcoming fleet renewal of 2 of our RoRo's the Management of NileDutch decided to temporarily suspend the activities to both Freetown and Monrovia with effect from the NDS Prodigy voy 728/07 ets NWC begin September eta Freetown 16-09-2007 eta Monrovia 17-09-2007.

23.06.2007Waivers Gabon compulsory

According to Gabonese legislation all shipments to Gabon must be accompanied with a valid BIC (waiver). The Shipper's Council of Gabon (C.G.C.) has reminded all shipping companies that fines will be imposed in case of missing BIC’s. Not only receivers but also the carriers are held responsible.

NileDutch wishes to inform that shippers are fully responsible for arranging BIC/waivers for their shipments to Gabon. In case of missing BIC’s NileDutch will hold shippers liable for any possible penalties or fines as imposed by the CGC to the line.

We thank you for your understanding and support, and for any further information please contact the nearest NileDutch agent or representative office.

10.06.2007Restricted draft in Cabinda

At present the draft alongside the jetty in Cabinda port is restricted, for which reason most of the shipping companies already have withdrawn their services to Cabinda. NileDutch decided that even with the very low draft at Cabinda, and the consequential operational difficulties, to continue to serve Cabinda with their dedicated feeder, mv NileDutch Nordica.

Due to the operational constraints in the port of Cabinda, NileDutch however is forced to restrict the maximum container weights (incl. tare) to a maximum of 24 tons per container with immediate effect.

Please note that the above is a temporary restriction, and as soon as the draft alongside the jetty has improved we will withdraw this maximum weight restriction.

We thank you for your understanding and support, and for any further information please contact the nearest NileDutch agent or representative office.

01.05.2007More vessels, greater frequency, better service to/from Asia

Following the outstanding success of and as a result of the increased demand, we have recently upgraded our service connecting China and Singapore with Angola, Congo (Republic) and South Africa less than a year after its launch.

With the introduction of two dedicated container carriers NileDutch President (built 1996) and the newly completed NileDutch Asia we increase our capacity to 1,700 TEUS per voyage.

Due to their speed at sea and efficiencies in the ports these new additions will also improve the schedule integrity.

Our ports of call are: Xingang, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Namibe, Lobito, Pointe Noire, Matadi, Cabinda, Luanda, Durban and back to Xingang.

01.05.2007Improved West Africa Feeder Service

As from mid-April, NileDutch will increase the frequency of its West Africa feeder service with the introduction of a second vessel, the Christian D. This 5,500-dwt, 2001-built, general cargo ship can carry nearly 400 containers all told and possesses 80 reefer plugs.

Together with the established vessel on this route, the Ro-Ro NileDutch Nordica, this newest arrival to our fleet will help provide four calls per month per destination, an effective doubling of frequency, between: Pointe Noire, Cabinda, Soyo, Boma and Matadi.

Commenting upon all these developments Mr Bert Zondervan, Trade Manager, said:

"We are very happy with the continuation of our expansion and increased service level, in West Africa as well as Asia. The introduction of our new house style is very well received by agents, customers and suppliers all around the world, and now we are very proud to show our new image also in our home town. Obviously NileDutch is the independent operator of choice for consignments to and from West Africa. And these developments show our ambition to remain the leading carrier in this region.”

NileDutch and DELMAS to launch a new service between East Coast South America and West Coast Africa.

DELMAS, part of the CMA CGM Group and NileDutch have decided to start a new service between South America East Coast and West Africa. Both partners having gained extensive experience in the West African Trade, will each provide a vessel to the service starting in the first week of March 2007.

The fully containerized service with ample reefer capacity will provide shippers a fortnightly connection from the Brazilian ports of Sao Francisco do Sul, Santos and Rio de Janeiro to Luanda in Angola and Pointe Noire in Congo. Argentinean cargo will be relayed via Rio de Janeiro. Other West African destinations such like Boma, Matadi, Cabinda, Soyo, Lobito, Libreville, Douala, Lagos, Tema and Abidjan will be served by relay via Pointe Noire using other service loops of DELMAS and NileDutch.

With this new service, DELMAS and NileDutch will offer the fastest transit time between Brazil and Angola.

2006 Best Carrier Portugal-Africa

NileDutch, now in its twenty-sixth year of operation, is rightly proud of its tradition of being a pioneer in West African shipping.

In Europe NileDutch Portugal has provided the level service shippers have come to expect from us. This pioneering spirit, our dedication to the West Africa trades and our commitment to the best levels of service have no doubt been significant in us being recognized by the Lusophone (Portuguese language) transport community with the award of:

2006: Best Carrier Portugal-Africa

Issued by Portuguese transport magazine "Transportes & Negocios" (Transport & Business), this award is voted on by its readership, which comprises forwarders, shippers, carriers and public bodies amongst others. In the sea transport category for the Portugal-Africa trades, NileDutch beat off strong competition from three other nominated lines, securing nearly half of all votes received.

We currently provide two services between Portugal and Africa, namely:

  • An express container service providing highly competitive transit-times from Leixoes and Lisbon to Angola (Luanda, Lobito, Namibe), as well as:
  • A Ro-Ro/multipurpose link between Lisbon and direct ports in Angola, Congo (Rep.), Gabon, Cameroon and Cote d'Ivoire.

Many more connections between Angola and West Africa are offered through our own feeder system. Contact your local NileDutch office for further information as to how we can help you fulfil your West Africa shipping needs.
