Penalty for mis-declaration of hazardous cargo

Dear valued customer,

At NileDutch, we take pride in servicing our customers and being the carrier of choice for cargo to and from West Africa.

We always ensure safety of our crew, port and depot workers, vessels, and other cargoes, especially where hazardous cargoes are concerned. Unfortunately, there have been a number of serious incidents on board container vessels this year, in particular involving hazardous cargo.

Following these incidents and other industry moves, after serious consideration, NileDutch has decided to impose a fine of EUR 25,000 per container for the mis-declaration of hazardous cargo as from 1 September 2019.

NileDutch expects all merchants to truly disclose and declare the nature of hazardous cargoes offered for shipment. NileDutch considers the mis-declaration of such cargo prior to shipment as being in contravention (non-compliance) of the rules and regulations related to the declaration of same.

In such occurrences, the merchant will be held liable for mis-declaration. The fine of EUR 25,000 per container, shall be immediately due and payable.
